Chinese Museum Tour

On Wednesday 18th May Grade Six enjoyed a visit to China Town in Melbourne CBD as part of their work in integrated studies.

At The Chinese Museum they were able to explore the gold rush Chinese settlement. We experienced the sensation of a simulated swaying 1850s ship. The children were able to touch and smell traditional Chinese herbs and food. The boys and girls were fascinated to learn about the world's biggest Chinese dragon and they even got to see Chinese textiles, costumes, furniture and a life size Terracotta warrior.

The children loved following and listening to their tour guide through the iconic Little Bourke Street and its intriguing laneways. They heard about people who lived and worked there. They even were able to shop in a traditional Chinese Grocery Store.

It was a really exciting and informative day for our Grade Sixes.

Maths Olympiad

On Thursday 26th May 2016 our Grade Six attended the "Sirius College Maths Olympiad" competition. Three members of our Grade Six represented the Keysborough Campus in the popular annual Inter Campus challenge.

Aliya Neama, Zac Anis and Ali Unia took on a lot of extra work in order to prepare for the day and took a lot of their own individual time to learn about famous historical mathematicians.

In a challenging competition of four rounds the children came second place overall. Well done to them on their spectacular achievement. We were all very proud of them!

Year 1 Community Walk

On Tuesday 7th of June the year one students took a bus ride to the Parkmore shopping centre. First we visited the Commonwealth Bank. We got to see how the different machines work, where the money is stored, where the customers are served and how to save up for your first car using school banking and the youth saver account. We got to count the 5 cent coins from fundraiser and although it was too short of time to collect one Qurban we raised $23.85 our teachers have bummed it up to $30 so we can feed one poor family in a third world country.

Then we got to buy our own fruit and a gift for a friend. It was a great experience dealing with money and taking care of the change we got. Some children got their fruit at bargain prices. It was good to see the Red Mark shop was all ready for us with a range of gifts to suit our budget.

Following lunch the children got to post their letters they've written earlier.

Back at school we were able to reflect on the constructed and managed places we've visited and we were able to brainstorm the ways in which places like Parkmore are maintained.

Over all a very successful excursion with a big thank you to all staff members involved. A special thank you to our wonderful volunteer of the day who has given up her whole day to assist us in making our day a success. Thank you Ms Selvia.

EXCURSION TO THE PORT OF MELBOURNE

The Year 12 Business Management, Keysborough Campus, excursion to the Port of Melbourne on Friday 20th May was a great success.

The students had a wonderful time. They started their adventurous day with snack-time next to the beach, enjoying the sunshine and the lovely sea breeze.

They participated in a wonderful presentation by Ms Kristy Janin, the Port Education Coordinator, toured around the port on the school bus and had a fascinating session on the Port of Melbourne Tower where the security staff ensured the safety of the port and the Coordinating Pilot Captains navigated the sea traffic in and out of the port.

It was fantastic to see the students enjoying themselves and learning about the operations of the Port of Melbourne.
